this week officially blows. and this effing track meet tonight didn't help (yes, i plan on complaining. i don't like to but it's necessary)
fucking english outline and word paper in general. fucking time change. i don't get any sleep now fucking new bus driver. she's a jerk and it doesn't help that i deal with her in the morning fucking track meet tonight. 1) it was in the stupid dome at Hono. it's so effing dry and it doesn't help that your ears pop when you enter or leave it. 2) time was mediocre most likely. relay overall was mediocre. 3) the arch of my right foot is hurting again. like it did when i had plantar faciatis the first time, and now i can barely walk right fucking homework in general. i just want to go to sleep right now and then wake up March 24th. i need a fucking break
on lighter note, running has generally been good, except for this new development. and actually running meets. i just want to run and play frisbee and be outside
i'm going to try to finish these damn sentence patterns so i don't have to tomorrow
i don't like whining, but it's necessary

okay, i have to tell you this story that my mom just told me because it's SO funny. anyway, you know I have a birthmark under my eye (the right one, I think?). so back in first grade, Raziel was teasing me about it or something, and I was bummed out about it. so I asked my mom what it was and she told me it was just a birthmark and that everyone had them somewhere. I was still kind of bummed out about it, so apparently she told me to tell Raziel that the birthmark was my "Spot of Power," and that it gave me the power to tell what color underwear people were wearing. so the next time Raziel teased me about it, I told him it was in fact my Spot of Power, and that I could tell what color underwear he was wearing because of it. naturally skeptical, Raziel did not believe me, so he asked me what color underwear he was wearing. knowing that most (all probably) first graders wore tightie whities as opposed to boxers, I told him his underwear was white. Raziel was amazed that I knew what color his underwear was, and I don't remember, but I like to think that he stopped teasing me about my birthmark then. This was shortly followed by him telling me that if I swallowed blood, I would die (I had a tooth come out I think), or that I would get cancer or any number of awful things (I really hated learning about that stuff, because it really freaked me out back then). I asked the teacher and she reassured me that I wouldn't die, but it still freaked me out as I recall. Flash forward to 5th grade when Raziel does a brilliant report about the rather broad topic of "Technology." The teacher asked him if he wanted to make it a little bit more specific, but he didn't. anyway, the report about 'Technology' makes for great laughs now.
so, I wonder what ever happened to Raziel L. i hope he's still worried about me coming back to check(guess) what color his underwear is though.

hm. turns out i have a lot to do before Spain. great
i need to make an outline for my paper, plod through like 3 -4 more sources, have the 2nd page of it written, do sentence patterns, write that prompt (i don't even know hen these 2 are due), and highlight that tragedy packet. oh and i also have 3 other classes that i should at least try in, maybe. and motherfucking track. i don't want to roll up to this meet today just to run the 4x800. okay well i do, but i don't at the same time because i've got plenty of other shit to do

i just had christmas in march. ie all the things i ordered with christmas money came this week! as a result, my bass drum looks sexy now. observe:
one of the old hoops is next to it. the other was a metal white one that didn't match. but now i have all ludwig parts on this bad boy! sorry, this is really exciting for me.
and then the Bishop Allen eps i ordered finally came. and they're awesome
i really don't have all that much to say. this weekend was a lot better and less weird than last weekend. good.

holy WOW. i seriously can't wait for this spring. and at the same time i'm totally dreading it. track will be eh as usual, but whatever. at least it keeps me running. the word paper is/will be hell, and that's a given. i know this. analytic geometry will be hell, and i know this too. AP tests will be hell as usual too, but whatever. the rest of this stuff will not be hell.
1. into SPAIN(descending) for spring break 2. more Imaginary Heroes (link) shows coming up, and a little thing called SKAFEST in Beloit in April. awesome. 3. Neon Bible, Armchair Apocrypha, Living with the Living, Four Winds, Cassadaga -- let's just say march is going to be a pretty good month for music 4. and as of this morning...THE ARCADE FIRE on may 19th at the Chicago Theater. whoa
i am "loving life" right now. but ceratinly not this goddamn snow blizzard crap that just started. balls

seriously though. i don't really even know what to think/how to think about it. and i can honestly say i'm trying not to, but i still do sometimes, and i end up overanalyzing it and whatever. so here's the plan: Freudian repression.
if i don't think about it then it won't bug me. if i don't think about it problems will not come up. if i don't think about it then any problems that come up will fix themselves if i don't think about it then i can enjoy this year. and next year. and next week. and tomorrow. and tonight. and whatever
it isn't worth my time to worry about this at all. it would just be foolish.
i'm just going to live and love and do and try and fail and keep going and i'm not going to worry about what the future might bring, because that's just stupid. i'm going to play shows with imaginary heroes. and i'm going to run. and i'm going to fucking ROLL this word paper. and i'm going to see ted leo in april. and i'm going to play in Pippin. and i'm fucking going to Spain. i'm just going to live
sorry to get all sensitve artist or whatever. fucking winter

i don't know if either of you have ever noticed this about m e, but i'm pretty indecisive (how could you not notice? i mean really). anyway, i've usually kind of seen it as a bad thing, because my mom is horribly indecisive too. but Kurt Vonnegut has changed my mind about this characteristic because i just finished reading A Man Without A Country, and here's what he has to say about the matter:
" They might have felt taking our country into an endless war was something decisive to do. What has allowed so many PPs (psychopathic personalities; what he uses to describe the leaders in our country) to rise so high in corporations, and now in government, is that they are so decisive. They are going to do something every fuckin' day and they are not afraid. Unlike normal people, they are never filled with doubts, for the simple reason that they don't give a fuck what happens next. Simply can't. Do this! Do that! Mobilize the reserves! Privatize the public schools! Attack Iraq! Cut health care! Tap everybody's telephone! Cut taxes on the rich! Build a trillion-dollar missile shield! Fuck habeas corpus and the Sierra Club and In These Times, and kiss my ass!"
so yeah. i guess it isn't so bad being indecisive about some things. anyway, you should read that book. it's short; i started it yesterday.

this is sort of hard because i buy CDs late a lot of times, but here are the top 10 cds that i got in 2006 (that also came out in 06):
10. Rainer Maria - Catastrophe Keeps Us Together 9. Rx Bandits - ...And the Battle Begun 8. Cursive - Happy Hollow 7. Lawrence Arms - Oh! Calcutta! 6. The Hold Steady - Boys & Girls In America 5. The Decemberists - The Crane Wife 4. The Hush Sound - Like Vines 3. Say Anything - ...Is A Real Boy (okay fine, technically not out in '06, but the re-release was.) 2. Belle & Sebastian - The Life Pursuit 1. Voxtrot - Mothers, Sisters, Daughters & Wives EP and Raised By Wolves EP
honorable mention: + Brand New - The Devil & God blah blah blah i really did want to put this one on there, because it has some really solid songs. but it couldn't beat out any of the other ones, and plus, some of it just makes you fucking sad. + Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Show Your Bones a pretty decent cd, surprisingly enough. "Turn Into" was definitely one of my favorite songs this year, but i don't really listen to this all that much to like it a whole lot. + Dr. Manhattan - For The Lonely Lest The Wiser yes, it's a solid cd. and they're just awesome/fun live. and they're good dudes, for the most part. but , it sort of just sounds the same after a while + Colossal - Welcome the Problems fine, this cd did not come out in 2006. or 2005. but you know what, i got it this year. and jesus christ, it's awesome. it deserves more than honorable mention + Westbound Train just all of their songs. i only have 4 though, but they were just awesome in November. dude has one of the best voices i've heard in a while, and they play nice, mellow, soulful, 2-tone ska-reggae-whatever. this is what i listen to when i start to freak out about things, & it just calms
Top 11 Bishop Allen Songs from 2006: okay, here's another fun list. this one takes a little explaining. so Bishop Allen (link) is a wonderful wonderful band from Brooklyn ( they did "Things Are What You Make Of Them" for that movie Saved!). In 2006, they released an EP a month, for 12 months (duh). I just ordered 4 of them with some christmas money, but alas, they won't ship until the 31st. So this list is slightly limited to the mp3s that they released from these EPs. In other words, i have one song from each month. Oh, and the August EP was a live one, so there was no new song. That's why it's only 11. Here goes:
11. "Clementines" from October - the demo version of this was better 10. "The Monitor" from March - this one just never really struck me 9. "Butterfly Nets" from May - it's dainty. the girl's voice is really pretty and the sax is a nice touch, but i sort of feel gay for liking it ('not that there's anything wrong with that!') 8. "Calendar" from December - i like this one a lot, especially the last line. it got really really hard at this point because these are basically all of my favorite songs 7. "Like Castanets" from September - once again, wonderful lyrics. it's about the singer's trip to Brazil, and it just sounds so cool. the music and the places described 6. "Flight 180" from April - Pitchfork said it sounded like Arcade Fire. i guess it sort of does, but this one is really neat. it's darker than the others i think, but the lyrics are great as usual. and the strings are a nice touch 5. "Corazon" from January - love love love this song. it's about a piano they found 4. "Click Click Click Click" from July - this one has a really cool story throughout the whole thing, and it's so damn catchy 3. "Tea For Two" from November - 'boys don't cry'-esque guitar line + quick tempos = mega fun 2. "The News From Your Bed" from February - ah, how can you not love this song? i'm glad they have piano in their songs now too. 1. "The Same Fire" from June - the lyrics in this one are just wonderful
and that's that. tell me yours, it will be fun!

so i didn't go to any 'bumpin' new years eve parties and didn't go 'get wasted' and i didn't do really anything typical of new year's eve. however, i am totally fine with that. because we finished all of the recording parts for i'll be fine and a real boy yesterday. so all we have to do on them now is to mix them, which is awesome. it makes me feel like we're actually doing something, you know? like it's coming together
2006 was a great year, there's no other way to describe it. IH finally got our shit together and got out there and started playing shows and got t shirts made and recorded. i got a 5 on the APUS test. our cross country team finally enjoyed some success. somehow i ended up having a girlfriend (this one still baffles me sometimes). i decided to go to Spain this year just because well, why not? i got to see Belle & Sebastian in milwaukee with one of my best friends. i managed to kick some statistic's ass and not get into any traffic accidents in my first year of driving. word up to driving like an old man. i dunno, there's more i'm sure. but it's been a good year

okay, i must document this before i forget it, because it was nuts.
so i had this dream last night/this morning that involved Lord of the Rings characters and battles and crap, which is strange, because i haven't even seen all of the movies. but what i remember is that there was this giant epic battle type thing going on in some crazy structure that I was in the top of, along with some other homies. it was weird, because it was a mix of people i know (high schoolers) and like, real lord of the rings characters, and some other people that looked like they were also high schoolers that i didn't know. i'm pretty sure meagan clayton and some other Guilford kids were involved somehow, i dunno. so there's this epic battle going on, and so these dudes are fighting on this bridge, when i noticed that everyone in battle was CLEARLY wearing white Air Force Ones, high top style. so in the dream, i was freaking out about this, and then i looked at my own feet and realized that I was in fact, also wearing air force ones. so after this, i kind of just sitting around with some other kids while this epic battle went on, trying to avoid action and the like, and then these enemies (presumably) came up and said "umm, we're going to take you guys as prisoners." they seemed pretty apathetic about it too (i think they were also high schoolers). so there was some other stuff that went on that i don't really remember, but the end of this involved us getting lined up army style to march somewhere, and for some reason i couldn't keep up, so in the end of the dream i was really anxious. actually, most of my dreams end that way
um yeah. kudos to anyone who read that whole thing, it's pretty stupid.
so i had a pretty okay christmas. it was just strange seeing my grandma in the hospital christmas eve. so it really didn't feel like christmas at all that day, i guess. however, she got moved to this nursing home so she can get more physical therapy, and she's doing much better. i guess my uncle said he hasn't seen her walk this well in a year. so i'm really glad about that
last night amy & i watched Scoop, the new woody allen movie. and it was absolutely hilarious/great because 1) it's british and i love movies that take place in London etc. 2) Scarlett Johansson was in it. 3) it's a Woody Allen movie, so it's ridiculous and funny 4) it doesn't end like every other Woody Allen movie (he doesn't end up with a girl 40 years younger than him for seemingly impossible reasons) 5) igottowatchitwithher
download "the crane wife 3" and "the crane wife parts 1 & 2" by the Decemberists. some of my favorite songs as of late

yay: 1) my christmas shopping is done. finally 2) finally found myself in the felix culpa dvd last night while watching it with amy. freak outs followed. well, only one really, cos it was just me. it's a clear shot of my ugly mug too, it's awesome 3) christmas is monday 4) i picked up The Crane Wife by the Decemberists and My Aim Is True by Elvis Costello at the library yesterday, and stopped looking because i figured i would probably find more stuff and then just be overwhelmed. the crane wife is really good though, very different from picaresque, but in a good way 5) i love that i have the option of watching an hour and a half of scrubs every night of the week, all because it's on syndicated TV now! 6) actually getting time to practice drums everyday. it's nice 7) harry potter and the _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _. i'm so excited for next year!!! it's on jkrowling.com if you're interested.
nay: 1) my grandma is not coming home today like i thought. i guess she just isn't ready yet, so she's going to get some more physical therapy so that when she does come home she's not a burden or anything. which is good, i guess. 2) MACROECONOMICS. i hate that class so much. at least US History last year was interesting, even though we had lots of work. this shit is just, well, shit. there's no other way to describe it 3) rain rain rain.
